Cold-Weather Golf Outfits for Women: 3 Looks to Choose From!

You open the curtains to blue skies, step outside and head straight back for another layer. The sunshine has arrived. The warmth is taking its time.

You open the curtains to blue skies, step outside and head straight back for another layer. The sunshine has arrived. The warmth is taking its time.

For a cold, sunny round, start with a long-sleeved top, trousers suited to the conditions and a removable fleece, knit or gilet. Add protection against wind or rain when the forecast calls for it, rather than expecting one warm layer to do everything. Our guide to women’s golf midlayers explains the different options.

Then comes the enjoyable part: putting the outfit together.

Perhaps you love warm neutrals, feel most yourself in navy or would happily wear pink throughout the year. These three looks bring together pieces from our autumn and winter ladies golf clothing collection, with suggestions for changing a layer rather than replacing the whole outfit.

Check More Than the Sunshine Symbol

Look at the forecast for the hours you expect to be playing, including the “feels like” temperature, wind and chance of rain. The Met Office’s explanation of feels-like temperature shows why air temperature alone does not tell the whole story: wind and humidity affect how conditions feel outdoors.

Use the outfits below as starting points, not fixed recipes for a particular temperature. Choose the amount of warmth you need, leave room for an additional layer and try the combination on before heading out.

Make a practice swing, bend to pick something up and check that your waistband, sleeves and neckline remain comfortable. A lovely outfit still needs to work when you move.

1. Spanish Steps With Parchment and Cocoa

A woman modeling a beige and brown geometric patterned mock-neck long-sleeve top paired with brown trousers and patterned socks.

Pair the Philippa Pattern Roll Neck in Spanish Steps with the Maria Active Vest in Parchment Powder and Harper Stretch Trousers in Cocoa Beach for a warm-toned outfit with one patterned focal point.

The Philippa Pattern Roll Neck is a slim-fitting base layer with soft stretch fabric and breathable, moisture-wicking properties. Its higher neckline provides coverage, while the close-fitting shape makes it a useful starting point beneath another layer.

Over the top, the Maria Active Vest in Parchment Powder brings diamond quilting, lightweight padding and a full front zip. It is a removable layer you can put on for the start of the round and take off when you no longer need it.

For the colour combination, we would keep the trousers plain. Cocoa Beach gives the outfit a darker base, while Parchment Powder provides a lighter contrast around the patterned top.

Make it your own: Already have brown or navy golf trousers you enjoy wearing? Start there. You do not need an entirely new wardrobe to make a patterned roll neck feel fresh.

Keep any hat or snood in a plain cream, brown or navy shade for a quieter finish. Alternatively, repeat a little of the print in an accessory and let the rest of the outfit stay simple.

Adjust it during the round: Make Maria the removable piece. On a colder day, add an appropriate midlayer beneath the gilet and check the fit of the complete combination before setting off. For a different take on the same colours, the fleece swaps further down offer another way to wear Spanish Steps.

2. Blue Aura With Navy and a Polo Collar

Woman modeling a blue ribbed quarter-zip knit pullover vest layered over a colorful patterned long-sleeve top with brown trousers and a matching blue cap.

Try the Philomena Long Sleeve Polo in Megabyte Navy, Carmen Quarter Zip Knit Pullover in Blue Aura and Elsa Button & Fly Winter Trousers in Navy Blazer for a coordinated blue outfit.

Philomena provides the patterned polo option, while Carmen introduces a paler blue midlayer. Both are listed in the AW26 collection.

We like this combination because the colours relate without everything being identical. The navy trousers give you a familiar starting point; Blue Aura changes the mood of the outfit without asking you to abandon a colour you already wear.

The Elsa Button & Fly Winter Trousers in Navy Blazer have four-way stretch, a button-and-fly fastening, belt loops and four pockets. They offer an alternative to a pull-on style when you prefer a more traditional trouser fastening.

Leave Carmen’s quarter zip slightly open to show the polo collar, or adjust the neckline to suit you. Before playing, check that the two collars sit comfortably together rather than bunching around your neck.

Make it your own: Prefer a gilet to a knit? Swap Carmen for the Maria Active Vest in Blue Aura and keep the navy trousers. That gives you another way to build the outfit around a pale-blue layer without changing the whole colour scheme.

For footwear, we would keep to navy or white with navy detailing. There is plenty happening in the top half of the outfit already.

Adjust it during the round: Decide which layer you would remove before you leave home. Make sure you are happy wearing the polo and trousers on their own if conditions allow, and keep any additional weather protection separate from the layer you are wearing for warmth.

3. Noughty Pink With a Relaxed Sweatshirt

A woman wearing a long-sleeve mock neck top with a light purple and white geometric pattern, paired with navy blue pants.

Combine the Paloma Pattern Roll Neck in Noughty Pink, Maven Sweatshirt in Super Pink and Harper Stretch Trousers in Navy Blazer for a more relaxed outfit.

This is our suggestion for someone who enjoys a bright print but does not want every piece competing for attention. Let the roll neck show above the sweatshirt and use navy as the connecting colour through the rest of the look.

Paloma in Noughty Pink and Harper in Navy Blazer are both listed in the current range; the combination gives you a patterned first layer and a plain trouser to build around.

The styling is deliberately straightforward. Start with the roll neck and trousers, then add Maven as the separate sweatshirt layer. Keep the sleeves comfortable at the wrists and check that the sweatshirt sits neatly over the waistband when you bend or swing.

There is no requirement to match your hat, socks, top and trousers. A little pink is quite capable of making itself known.

Make it your own: Prefer green and a polo collar? Try the Grace Long Sleeve Polo in Noughty Green with navy trousers and the Parchment Powder Maria gilet from the first outfit. Grace is the long-sleeved polo option in that colour story.

This is also a useful way to get more wear from a neutral gilet: change the patterned top underneath rather than buying a different outer layer for every outfit.

Adjust it during the round: Treat Maven as the layer to remove when you warm up. For days when you would rather wear a quarter-zip fleece, switch the middle layer using the suggestions below.

Prefer a Fleece? Change the Middle Layer

The Hopper, Heidi and Heather quarter-zip fleeces offer another route through the collection’s colour stories. Rather than automatically adding a fleece over your sweatshirt or knit, choose it in place of that layer and reassess how much warmth you need.

Here are three combinations we would try:

These product styles and colourways appear in the collection listings. The combinations are styling suggestions, so try the actual pieces together to check the necklines and fit.

A plain first layer gives a patterned fleece some space. It also makes changing your outfit simpler: keep the trousers and base colour, then switch the piece everyone sees first.

For an alternative blue-green combination, we would pair Heidi in Megabyte Teal with navy trousers and a plain white first layer.

Finish the Outfit With Golf Shoes or Boots

Think about the trouser hem and footwear together, rather than choosing the shoes as an afterthought.

The current range includes Carla Winter Boots in Navy Blazer, alongside Maeve Winter Shoes in White & Navy and Navy & Silver. For the blue outfit, we would choose navy footwear for a tonal finish; white and navy would provide a lighter contrast beneath darker trousers.

For the Spanish Steps outfit, navy footwear can work with navy trousers you already own, while a brown boot would keep the combination warm-toned.

Try your footwear with the socks you intend to play in. Check that the trouser hem does not drag on the ground or gather awkwardly around the ankle, and that you can bend comfortably.

For practical footwear advice, our winter golf clothing guide also covers choosing shoes for the conditions. Check the specification of the particular shoe or boot you are buying rather than treating “winter” as a guarantee of waterproofing or grip.

Cold-Weather Golf Gear: The Finishing Touches

A hat, snood and suitable gloves are worth considering alongside your clothes, especially when the cold becomes more noticeable. They are also an opportunity to repeat a colour from your outfit without adding another large patterned piece. Our winter dressing guide includes these accessories alongside the main clothing layers.

With Spanish Steps, we would try cream or brown accessories. With Blue Aura and navy, keep the finish blue, white or navy. With Noughty Pink, choose one pink accessory or let the roll neck provide all the colour.

Before leaving home, lay out the complete outfit, including socks and shoes. Decide which piece you would remove first and where you would put it. That small check is more useful than discovering halfway round that your bag has no room for the extra layer.

Choose Your Colours, Then Make the Outfit Yours

Start with the trousers you love, pick a top that makes you smile and choose the layer you will be glad to have on the first tee.

Perhaps that means Spanish Steps with soft neutrals, Blue Aura with navy, or a little Noughty Pink beneath a sweatshirt. Use these looks as ideas to adapt, including with pieces already in your wardrobe.

FAQs on Cold-Weather Golf Outfits

What Should Women Wear for Golf When It Is Cold but Sunny?

Start with a long-sleeved top, trousers appropriate for the conditions and a removable midlayer or gilet. Adjust the warmth to suit the forecast and your comfort, adding a wind-resistant or waterproof outer layer where needed. Sunshine alone does not tell you how warm the round will feel.

Can I Wear a Long-Sleeved Golf Polo in Winter?

A long-sleeved golf polo can be part of a layered outfit, but it will not necessarily provide enough warmth on its own. Philomena and Grace are long-sleeved polo options to consider; for colder conditions, add an appropriate midlayer and outer protection.

How Can I Make a Winter Golf Outfit Look Coordinated?

Choose one piece to lead the outfit, then repeat one or two of its colours elsewhere. A patterned top with plain navy trousers is an easy starting point. Alternatively, build around a pale-blue or parchment layer and keep the rest of the outfit within a quieter colour palette.

You do not need everything to match exactly. Aim for pieces you enjoy wearing together.

Do All Winter Golf Clothes Need to Be Waterproof?

Not really. Warmth and rain protection are different jobs. A fleece, knit or gilet can be part of your cold-weather outfit without being suitable as your only protection in sustained rain. Check individual garment specifications and bring appropriate waterproof or water-resistant outerwear when the forecast calls for it.
