Perfect Partner #5 Purple Rain

Anytime anyone says Purple Rain, I can't help but sing out the classic Prince song, sometimes forgetting myself where I am. The song (and my bad singing aside), we turn back to the fact it does actually make a delicious cocktail. That's why this weeks beverage, sits perfectly along side the cool, 'bring on summer' Freesia Shorts.

Purple Rain

“The Purple Rain refers to at least two popular mixed drinks. The more common is a variation on the highball Long Island Iced Tea, substituting Chambord for Triple Sec and a lemon-lime soda for the cola. The other is a long cocktail made from vodka, lemonade, blue Curaçao and grenadine.” The Purple Rain cocktail wikipedia page also notes that “The name of this [latter] version originates from the appearance of the drink as the grenadine is added as the final ingredient, since the sinking of the red grenadine through the blue of the other ingredients creates the impression of purple rain.”

Ingredients
45ml Vodka
90ml Lemonade
15ml Blue Curaçao
7ml Grenadine
Rim: Purple Sugar
Garnish: Lemon Slice

PREPARATION
1. Rim the edge of your glass with a lemon wedge and purple sugar (Sugar + Blue Curaçao + Grenadine)
2. In a shaking glass with ice, combine vodka, lemonade, blue curaçao, and grenadine. Shake well.
3. Strain mix into rimmed glass over ice and garnish with a lemon slice.
